Welcome

March 27, 2007

The reactivated Coalition for Open Government was launched on 2 April 2007, to press for strong new election finance laws.  Originally formed in 1979, the Coalition played a leading role in achieving New Zealand’s 1982 Official Information Act. Twenty five years on, the group has been re-formed in response to Government plans to rewrite the election finance laws. The Coalition plans to evaluate the Government proposals, monitor the legislation process and mobilise public support for the strongest possible new law.  Click here for the media release from the launch.

You can read about the Coalition and its patrons, read and comment on our draft key points and principles document and look at Questions and Answers about the Coalition.  Visit our Info/Links page for links to information and resources, read media releases and click here to get involved.

Our proposals are an initial draft, designed to encourage debate and we welcome your comments on these - please post a comment in the key points and principles page.
